Patagonia & Big Cities
As a group of seven friends, we wanted to experience Patagonia and its beautiful nature. The idea arose from a friend's trip around the world, whom we wanted to visit and accompany on part of his journey. We were on the road for around three weeks from mid-December to the beginning of January.
Christian supported us with the planning right from the start. We were able to express our wishes and ideas after he had shown us the various options in detail. Even in the large group, we didn't have much effort.
Another thing that helped us a lot was the fact that he and his wife Marina had the experience themselves and could always tell us where we should plan to spend how many days. This made it possible for us to weigh up our options and gather all the impressions we prioritized.
We started our trip in Santiago de Chile (two days). From a very nice hostel in a central location, we were able to explore the city. Historic buildings, ceviche with pisco sour, nice cafés and bars and a beautiful sunset awaited us.
From the metropolis in Chile, we traveled on to Bariloche in Argentina. In the northern part of Patagonia, we were greeted by the most impressive scenery of the trip. We were able to admire beautiful lakes surrounded by forests with a mountain panorama in the background on every hike. There was also time for relaxation: a day at the lake, in a beer garden or a pub crawl through Bariloche - anything was possible.
At each location, Christian always sent us travel tips for the next section in good time. About restaurants, sights, hikes, excursion destinations or bars, he was able to answer our questions and help us with everything. Even spontaneous changes such as booking a rental car or a boat tour were no problem and saved us a lot of time in the large group.
From the countryside, we then headed back into the city. Buenos Aires impressed us above all with its different neighborhoods. Restaurants & walks along the harbor, colorful art in the Boca district, pure soccer passion at Boca Junior in La Bombonera or the nightlife & street art in Palermo. Buenos Aires has a lot to offer and was very impressive.
After spending Christmas in Buenos Aires, we traveled on to Puerto Madryn on the Atlantic coast. From there, we reached our beautiful little accommodation in the small village of Puerto Piramides directly on the Peninsula Valdes by rental car. We were able to explore the entire nature reserve by car and marvel at penguins, seals, sea lions, llamas and the beautiful nature by the sea. Whales can be seen here in large numbers from May/June to December. However, they didn't wait for us and we were unfortunately denied this spectacle.
However, we then had another spectacle of nature in El Calafate. After a relaxing day at the lake, we were able to admire the Perito Moreno Glacier. Definitely the most spectacular experience on our trip.
There are also many hikes in El Chaltén in a fantastic landscape.
Unfortunately, we didn't have time for this as we still had 4 days of hiking ahead of us. From the beautiful town of Puerto Natales (best coffee in the world at Adventure Cactus Coffee), we then headed to Chile's Torres del Paine for four days without cell phone reception to start the new year 2025: long, steep hikes with mountains, glaciers, a puma, llamas, the Andean condor, streams, lakes and forests in different colors - definitely worth the trip! You should bring some fitness and good shoes for the whole tour, otherwise it will quickly turn into Torres del Pain =)
The trip to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego (Tierra del Fuego) made our trip complete: A beautiful city with delicious fish restaurants (our recommendation is ‘Chiko’), a boat tour to see penguins, seals and cormorants or a game of chess at the end of the world. Here we were even able to add the missing whales to our album.
We returned to Germany via Buenos Aires with impressions that still linger today.
