Choir & More | October 2024

Buenos Días, Argentina!

Music was the reason for this trip! If it hadn't been for our choirmaster, who had the idea of performing Bach, Zipoli and other composers' cantatas with a choir friend in Argentina, we wouldn't have had Argentina on our radar. So the excitement was great when we flew to Argentina in October 2024 with 40 singers from the Karlshöhe Ludwigsburg choir and their friends. Two weeks in Cordoba, Villa General Belgrano, Alta Gracia, Mendoza and the Andes with the highest mountain in America, the Aconcagua, in between three concerts in beautiful churches with a captivating audience - and all perfectly organized by Chris and Marina from Aventura Austral.

And when you travel that far, you - in this case us and my sister Steffi with my husband Walter - add another two weeks and visit Patagonia. Chris and Marina planned our tour perfectly for us: Bariloche with its lakes and mountains reminds us a little of Switzerland, El Calafate with the incredibly large Perito Moreno Glacier, El Chaltén - a hiking paradise for beginners to advanced hikers with the imposing Fitz Roy (which unfortunately is usually covered in fog), as well as the Torres del Paine National Park, which makes trekkers' hearts beat faster. Not forgetting Ushuaia at the foot of the Andes foothills, the end of the world at Cape Horn, a sleepy little town with magnificent nature, with its cormorants and penguin colonies, which you can experience up close on a boat trip on the Beagle Channel.

Buenos Aires was the last stop on our trip. We were fascinated by the many different facets of this city of millions: La Boca, the working-class district, Palermo or the hip San Telmo, the modern harbor district of Puerto Madero, Recoleta - chic and expensive and in its famous cemetery you can feel a bit of Evita Peron's spirit. Tango everywhere, whether in squares or in small, intimate bars, vibrant life in the streets, but also bitter poverty. A city that you have to see!

Without Chris and Mari, who really booked everything for us, from the flights (there were quite a few) to the accommodation, from the overnight stays to the excursions, we would not have been able to experience this trip in such a relaxed way. Our heartfelt thanks go to you both, this was not the last time we were on the South American continent.
